1969. It was a good year. A musical event in Woodstock, New York brought over a half a million people to a rainy field for 4 days of rock-n-roll. Neil Armstrong took man's first walk on the moon. Mrs. Robinson was the record of the year and children everywhere met, for the first time, the gang from Sesame Street. Closer to home, Elvis Presley opened at the International Hotel (now the Hilton); Nevada Southern officially became University of Nevada at Las Vegas, UNLV; and Baughman & Turner, Inc. opened it's doors for the first of 55-years of business.
B & T founding fathers, Richard Baughman, Jay Haught and Stephen Turner, bought the small engineering firm of Leavitt and Holler in 1969 and soon renamed it, Baughman, Haught and Turner. The small company provided a variety of services including civil engineering, mining engineering and surveying. Capitalizing on the amazing growth of the Las Vegas Valley and outlying areas, the 5 man office quickly became a thriving company. Having outgrown the original offices near Sahara and Paradise, the firm moved to the corner of Charleston and Rancho where the company continued to grow. After 20-years at that location, the firm moved once again to its present location at Charleston and Hinson in the old Conrad's Western Store building (right next door to Panorama Market, remember?).
Baughman & Turner, Inc. participated in the phenomenal growth of the Las Vegas Valley. B & T provided the engineering and/or surveying services for such local landmarks as Cashman Field, Golden Nugget, McCarran Airport and the Tuscany Hotel and Casino. Through the years Baughman & Turner has worked for all the City and County entities at one time or another. B & T, working for the Las Vegas Valley Water District, provided the surveying services necessary to lay untold miles of main line water pipe and reservoirs. Baughman & Turner was also the Water District's reviewing agency for many years.
Yes, 55-years of business is a long time. We've seen a lot of change in those 55-years and hope to see another 55-years. The great thing about those 55-years in business is the fact that Baughman & Turner has grown into a full-service engineering and land surveying firm.
